Wizards build awareness of mental illness in sport to keep heads in the game for as long as possible.
Aberavon RFC is pleased to announce that they will be raising awareness of the Community Interest Company, Noggin Sport.
Noggin Sport is dedicated to raising awareness of the effects of mental illness in sport.
The aim is to keep heads in the game for as long as possible through the creation of a unique headwear range, designed to share and promote the positive effects of mental health awareness.
Founders, brothers Conor Joyce and Kieran Joyce, have experienced the highs and lows of playing competitive sport in testing environments, which they say can ‘often impact your health’.
Kieran Joyce spoke of his experience of dealing with mental illness.
“It can be a lonely place dealing with mental illness. I struggled to know who to turn to.
As a result, I am dedicated to create an open network through Noggin Sport to help aid discussions on mental health.”
Chris Davies, Commercial Manager at Aberavon RFC, spoke of the concern of mental health.
“This is a serious issue and should never be approached with an old school attitude.
I have experienced the highs and lows of rugby, the implications on the mind of being told you are not good enough or not big enough, with the addition of the pressures of winning and losing.
We need to do all we can to help people affected by mental illness in sport.”
Aberavon RFC has jumped to support the excellent work that Noggin Sport provide.
“We are fully in supported of Noggin Sport. Therefore, we have purchased some of bobble hats to raise awareness of the charity locally”.
Every player and coach in the squad at Aberavon RFC have purchased a Noggin Sport Aberavon RFC braded bobble hat.
These hats will be on sale in the club shop for £15. There is limited stock, so please grab yours as soon as possible.
You can purchase the Noggin Sport bobble hats before the Aberavon V Newport game on Friday 8 February. The club shop will be open from 6.30pm.
